New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman Admits He Knew of Evidence Against Lippman Before He Voted Him In As Chief Judge

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman Admits He Knew of Evidence Against Lippman Before He Voted Him In As Chief Judge

In this recording, then Senator Eric Schneiderman states:

"I am aware of the [Senate] hearings and I know that there were things that were presented that falls under the jurisdiction of the Judiciary Committee.

Senator Breslin of the Judiciary Committee received evidence...  And I do remember evidence of alleged misconduct on behalf of Judge Lippman during his Confirmation Process. And that's a process and there are also are cases that, you know, people bring either in State Court or in Federal Court, frequently, and I know there are cases against Judge Lippman pending in Federal Court. Those are taking their course I don't think that he's ever actually been found guilty of anything."

Regarding criminal conduct by the Commission on Judicial Conduct:

"If there is an agency that's breaking the law and there is credible evidence that is being presented, you investigate, the Attorney General's Office has the ability to investigate it.

If something rises to the level of criminal conduct or if there is a breakdown in one of the systems the Attorney General can conduct an investigation, the same principal applies..."

Question: And you intend to do that?

"But most senators effusively praised Mr. Lippman. Eric T. Schneiderman, a Democrat who represents parts of the Upper West Side and the Bronx, called the judge “indisputably qualified.”
“We are going to examine the flawed process of judicial nomination,” Mr. Schneiderman said. “We are not going to put up with the same old business as usual, and are going to work to diversify and be more inclusive in the courts.”
